There was a time where food consumed my every waking thought. From a very young age I was OBSESSED with being skinny. I had terrible body image and self esteem. I went down the path of yo-yo dieting (that many of us women do) starting at a very young age. I jumped from restrictive diet to diet, seeking desperately for an answer and a way for me to finally lose the weight. But in reality all of these diets were way too restrictive for me to ever keep them up long term. As a result of the years of restricting my calories, gaining and losing the same weight over and over again, and patterns of restricting my food then binge eating.. I developed not only a terribly disordered relationship with food and body image but also destroyed my hormones, gut health, down-regulated my thyroid function, and slowed my metabolism down to a snail's pace in the process. Losing weight became next to near impossible and when I was able to lose weight I was unable to keep it off. I felt doomed and destined to this cycle for life. I'm what you could call a reformed “extremist.” I’ve always been either all the way in OR all the way out, no inbetween. And although I was able to be disciplined enough to reach goals, I could never keep them because the extreme methods I used to reach these goals were not sustainable. Fitness was always an outlet for me from a young age. But when it came to nutrition I did what a lot of people did… I tried to eat as “clean” or “healthy” as possible but despite feeling like I was doing what I was supposed to do, I never was able to get the results I was looking for. It wasn’t until I met my now wife, Evita, that I realized the importance that nutrition played, that there was way more beyond it than just eating “healthy.” I was able to…
